Yet another visit to a floating market, the Kwan Riam Floating Market which is located just outside of the Bangkok metropolitan in Min Buri district, this one brought another nice experience which include a tour along the canal of the floating market. What makes this floating market distinctive is that, it is a rather huge market which has few sections and 2 sides separated by the canal and connected through a bridge. Talad Nam Kwan Riam as it is known to locals also has its own market logo which is a standing buffalo in sun-glass, which is distinctive to a floating market. There is a big Thai temple within the Kwan Riam Floating market. Other special thing to note of Kwan Riam Floating Market is sections of petting zoo which have few animals such as the tortoise, kangaroo, donkeys.

The main entrance to the Kwan Riam Floating Market is from the temple premise. Greeting visitors are rows of thai and local delicacies in a 2 storey roof sheltered premise beside the canal. There were just unbelievable variety of food, drinks, sweets and snacks sold within this food and beverage area. When you are done with shopping for food or drinks and other food items, there were tables and chairs settings on the edges of the market where you can sit down and relax to enjoy your food and maybe a coffee or tea break. There was a thai coffee and tea stall within this area where a man highly skilled in pulling the tea and coffee as you ordered one. It was one of the interesting and fun beverage pulling experience without dripping a drop on the floor. Though this is not unique to Thailand, it was somewhat heartening to see a Thai who was able to perform such skills. If there is a competition in Bangkok in tea or coffee pulling category, this man qualify for advance stage perhaps. There were also a stall serving southern Thai food at the end of this section with more tables and chairs available for dining purpose.

On the first floor within the same section of the floating market, there are few more shops selling items specialising in clothing, herbal creams soap and herbal medicines and also souvenirs. This 1st floor area also connects to another section of Kwan Riam Floating Market through a wide walkway bridge which has a food court set up and many more food stalls, souvenirs, daily essentials items, clothing, coffee stalls and fruits and snacks. This wide area which is fully sheltered with roof is not humid and with good air flowing through the place from all angles of the premise. You can get some snacks and sweets while enjoying the cool breeze of air. This is also where you can also have some slightly heavier treat for lunch after a exhausting walk browsing through the many items available. Tables and chairs for purpose of dining are available so you can enjoy food and drinks as well as other treats comfortably. There were also some benches available between the walkways to take a break or to unwind.

On another section of Talad Nam Kwan Riam is the few old junks specially constructed and docked on the edge of the canal where some special Thai delicacies are available such as the bbq fish and prawns, pork satay and boat noodles. If you are into seafood and boat noodles, this area must not be missed as it served some of the best seafood and the boat noodle dish is also quite up to its mark.

The final and ultimate encounter at Kwan Riam Floating Market is to take a boat cruise along the canal which passes through few factories and private homes and bungalows. Min Buri district in Bangkok has many factories established around the area so this is where you can witness many such factories along the canal while cruising through the canal at Talad Nam Kwan Riam.
